Niall Horan One Direction is reportedly dating model Zoe Whelan. According to The Sun, the couple got together in February 2013, and she was his date at his older brother Greg’s wedding, which took place at Castletown Geoghegan in County Westmeath, Ireland, on March 27, 2013.
Horan is 19, and Whelan (who studied at Marino College of Education in Dublin) is 18. They’re both from Ireland but currently live in London.
An unnamed source told The Sun: “Niall has been secretly seeing Zoe for a couple of months after he met her backstage. She’s a Dubliner but is based in London to work on her modelling career. Zoe’s traveled all over the U.K. to meet up with Niall on the band’s tour. But the biggest sign he’s really serious about her is that he introduced her to his whole family at his brother’s wedding.”
One Direction launched its 2013 world tour on Feb. 23 in London. Horan is the only member of the group who is Irish. The other members of the group (19-year-old Harry Styles, 20-year-old Zayn Malik, 21-year-old Louis Tomlinson and 19-year-old Liam Payne) are British.
Horan is also the only member of the group who hasn’t had a high-profile romance since One Direction found fame as a contestant act on “X Factor” U.K. in 2010. He has said in many interviews that he’s too busy with his career to have a serious relationship. He also does not publicly name any women he’s dated since he became rich and famous.
“The X Factor” U.S. judge Demi Lovato and Horan admitted in interviews in 2012 that they have crushes on each other, but they have insisted that they are just platonic friends. Meanwhile, there were rumors that Horan was dating drama student Amy Green in 2012, but sources say it was a “friends with benefits” relationship and Horan wasn’t in love with Green.
Styles has a reputation for being the biggest flirt in One Direction. Since 2012, he refuses to publicly name anyone whom he’s been dating, but his on-again/off-again relationship with Taylor Swift made headlines, even though they dated for only a few months: first in April 2012 and then from mid-November 2012 to the first week in January 2013.
Before he hooked up with Swift, Styles had dated “The Xtra Factor” host Caroline Flack from October 2011 to January 2012, and he has been romantically linked to several women after Flack, including model Cara Delevingne, former “Made in Chelsea” co-star Caggie Dunlop, singer Natalie Imbruglia, model Emma Ostilly, singer Lily Halpern and photographer Sarah-Louise Colivet.
Malik and Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards have been a couple since April 2012. Tomlinson has been dating University of Manchester student Eleanor Calder since late 2011. Payne and dancer Danielle Peazer met when they were both on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010, and they have been ever since, except for a breakup that lasted from September to December 2012.
All of the One Direction girlfriends have been to several concerts on One Direction’s 2013 world tour.
A source commented the Irish Sun about the Horan/Whelan relationship: “She’s a beautiful girl, it’s no surprise she caught his eye. And they get on like a house on fire. Niall is protective of Zoe but people knew it was serious when he introduced her to family and friends at Greg’s wedding in Mullingar last week.
“Zoe is a beautiful girl inside and out and is quite shy really. Her family is protective and know that being in Niall’s life will bring a lot of attention on her. She’s still very young and it’s a strange world to find herself in but she has a lot of people looking out for her.”
