Microsoft might be a mere couple of months away from securing total control over Nokia’s handset division, yet the Windows Phone creators are apparently not relying solely on Lumia devices to boost the fledgling mobile platform’s popularity.
Instead, they’re in an ongoing recruitment process of new partners, also looking to strengthen ties with existent associates such as Samsung or HTC. So far only focused on phones powered by Google’s Android, Sony is reportedly pondering the rollout of at least one WP-running gizmo in the near future, likely to be integrated in the Vaio product line.
Of course, the intel comes by way of unverified and unverifiable sources, so it has to be taken with the customary caution and proverbial amount of salt. Then again, it probably makes sense for Sony to start exploring fresh ventures in the mobile landscape, as Xperias continue to be mostly overlooked by mainstream audiences in favor of iPhones, Samsung Galaxies or budget contenders from up-and-coming China-based OEMs.
Provided the gossip is to be trusted, the purported first Vaio handheld may land as soon as mid-2014, and thus come pre-loaded with Windows Phone 8.1. Quad or even octa-core power is ergo in the cards, as is Full HD or 2K resolution. Hmm, should Big G and Cupertino actually begin fearing the WP threat?
