Celebrities are reacting to the rioting and civil unrest taking place in Baltimore this week, sparked by the death of Freddie Gray, who was chased through several housing complexes by the cops on April 12, and then died while in police custody. Following Gray’s funeral, violent protests broke out with looting and cars set on fire. A state of emergency was declared by the Maryland’s Governor Larry Hogan. And now a slew of upset stars have taken to social media to voice their outrage over the situation.
Demi Lovato wrote, “Nobody wins in Baltimore tonight.” And Kevin Hart tweeted, “What’s going on in Baltimore is honestly hurting my heart!!!!” He added, “I’m praying for the city in a whole… I promote Peace not War!!!!”
Donald Trump took a more political tact in his Baltimore response, tweeting, “Wow, 15 policemen hurt in Baltimore, some badly!” He asked, “Where is the National Guard. Police must get tough, and fast! Thugs must be stopped.” Trump then added in another tweet, “Our great African American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore!”
On the other side of the spectrum, Kelly Rowland tweeted, “Praying for Baltimore. #PrayForPeace.” “Really sucks to see these lawless looters ruining the great city of @Baltimore. This isn’t protest, this is a violent attack on your OWN city,” Carson Daly wrote on Twitter, before receiving backlash and deleting his message.
“Prayers of peace for Baltimore. My heart is with you,” expressed Zendaya. Meanwhile, “30 Rock” star Judah Friedlander said, “Wishing Baltimore peace and justice.” And Malcolm Jamal Warner noted, “Notice how the thousands of Baltimore peaceful protesters were virtually ignored but the rioters get all the media love.”
Gossip Cop will continue to update as more stars react to the situation in Baltimore.
