The animated flick Hotel Transylvania 2 won this weekend’s box office with a whopping $47.5 million debut!
According to THR, the Sony sequel starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, and Kevin James beat out the original film, which previously held the record for top September opening with $42.5 million.
Coming in at No. 2 was The Intern, starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, which opened to a solid $18.2 million.
Taking the third spot was Dylan O’Brien‘s Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, earning an additional $14 million, for a domestic total of $51.7 million so far.
Rounding out the top five were the star-studded movie Everest and Johnny Depp‘s new flick Black Mass, bringing in $13.1 million and $11.5 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Eli Roth-directed horror flick The Green Inferno grossed $3.5 million from 1,540 locations.
Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin‘s new movie Sicario brought in $1.8 million from 59 theaters.
99 Homes, starring Andrew Garfield, Michael Shannon, and Laura Dern, earned $32,807 from two theaters in New York for a location average of $16,403.
